Horse Camp

I first met Savannah on a Craig's List ad in December. Katie, my co-worker, was looking at friends for her lone horse Bubbles. Little to Katie's knowledge, I studied the ad and determined that I was going to ride that horse. Months later, I did.

Savannah and I got off on a wobbly start testing each other's patience and grit will riding shin-deep in muddy fields. But that didn't stop me from coming back to the farm. I wanted to understand her movements and intentions. I wanted to work in unison with her. Horse Camp was the true test of our relationship. We meandered through endless mountain bike trails (aka super narrow, single track trails) in the Tillamook State Forest. Savannah's lack of knowledge regarding a human body on top of her and low hanging branches above her made the rides, well, thrilling and unnerving at times. By the end of our time together, we were galloping and weaving through the trails as if we were riding together for years. It was strange. At times I was in the same flow state riding Savannah as I am mountain biking. Maybe it's the trails trails that force that state of consciousness upon me. Regardless, it was a weekend adventure that I will never forget. Thank you Katie!

One love.

Two people + two dogs + two horses = perfect weekend.

Bubbles!
This is where the manifestation of marshmallows occured.
